Jurassic World earns half a billion dollars in opening weekend

The top worldwide opening in history, Universal's $511.8m haul "obliterated expectations," reports Pamela McClintock. $204.6m of that was earned in the U.S.

Internationally, China led overseas with $100.8 million, followed by the U.K. and Ireland ($29.6 million), Mexico ($16.2 million), South Korea ($14.4 million), France ($12.5 million), Australia ($12.1 million), Germany ($11 million) and Russia ($9.4 million).

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows came close, but fell at few million short of the $500m mark in its first weekend.
