A surprising survey by Teenwise Minnesota found that bisexual females were five times more likely to have been pregnant than straight females. Questioning and gay males were four times more likely than straight males to report getting someone pregnant.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that teens were having less sex overall than in the past, so this interesting observation in Minnesota may stem from higher rates of risky behavior of from lack of information.
Erin Wilkins of Family Tree Clinic in St. Paul said:
For queer youth who are out, the information about pregnancy prevention is being overlooked for them because the adults in their lives think they don't need it. Unintended pregnancy is huge in the LGBT youth world.
