New species of Crayfish named after Edward Snowden

Scientists named this newly-identified species of Indonesian crayfish Cherax snowden, after Edward Snowden.


"The new species is named after the American freedom fighter Edward Joseph Snowden," Humbold University Berlin researcher Christian Lukhaup and his colleagues wrote in the scientific journal ZooKeys. "He is honored due to his extraordinary achievements in defense of justice, and freedom. The name is used as a noun in apposition."
