Weekend of Wonder: Dinner in a taco shop's folk art garden, made from scrap junk

tios-424

Our upcoming Weekend of Wonder will include a wide array of fun experiences with artists, makers, and magicians, but it will also include some really great Southern California food. During the 3-day "extravaganza," meals are a place where we'll be able to relax and get to know one another. One night, we'll be having dinner in Tio's Tacos amazing folk art garden. This place is really special, and very Boing Boing.

Martin Sanchez' great Mexican restaurant is just a few steps down the road from the Mission-revival masterpiece that is the Mission Inn, where WoW takes place. In the garden behind Tio's Tacos, Sanchez has created a phenomenal folk art installation. He works with found objects and rescued junk of all shapes and sizes, and with that scrap material he has created a Gaudi-esque fantasy land that delights the eye. Everywhere you look there is something oddly amazing. It all magically fits together.

Mosaics, toy cars, real cars, religious detritus, Barbie doll heads and every sort of odd and end come together to create a fantastic landscape. We'll be leaving one palace of fine art for another, very different one. Tio's Tacos is a perfect place for Happy Mutants to have dinner!
