Kickstarting a jewelry-making kit for girls that teaches coding

Robbo writes, "Giapetta's Workshop is a multi-faceted interactive adventure story and hand-crafting jewelry kit, all-in-one, for 8-12 year olds that teaches the fundamentals of coding. They're running a Kickstarter campaign to get everything rolling with the goal of getting 5,000 girls coding in 30 days."

$35 gets you the basic kit. Caveat emptor, as with all crowdfunding campaigns, but the team behind this has a good track record of shipping what they start.

The kit alone is pretty cool with all the doodads in a laser-cut box so you can make your own jewelry – but the magic happens when that jewelry interacts with the tablet-based steampunk story that teaches the coding skills necessary to further the plot.

Giapeta's Workshop was devised by the Ellman brothers, Fred & Steve, along with Jill Golick, creator of Ruby Skye P.I.
