On April 1, 22 states will roll back their food stamps rules to pre-crisis levels, so adults without dependents or disabilities will only be entitled to "three months of food stamps in any three-year period—unless they work at least 80 hours a month, or meet education and training or volunteer benchmarks."
Between 500K and 1 million Americans will lose their benefits as a result, without the prospect of employment that will fill in the gaps.
If people are unable to find a job, it is cruel to force them to starve, and it is foolish to make a poor, unemployed, hungry person sit through classes that will not directly lead to a job, or spend their time volunteering, for no income, simply so they can have food to eat, but no money or free time to obtain it. The likely outcome of reinstating these rules: “The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities estimates that 500,000 to one million people will lose access to food stamps this year, citing the experience in states where work requirements already returned.”

Angela Corey is state attorney for Florida’s 4th Circuit, where she’s put children as young as 12 on trial as adults, facing life in prison — in solitary, because children can’t be mixed with adult populations — without counseling, education, or any access to family.
Most states have no maximum temperature standards for their prisons: combine that with a succession of hottest-months-on-record and a prison system that provides less water than is medically recommended even when it’s not hotter than blazes, and you’ve got a carceral state that is roasting prisoners alive.
