On eve of Erdogan-Trump White House visit, Turkey orders arrests of 85 energy and education staff in post-coup probe

Turkish strongman Recep Tayyip Erdogan is scheduled to meet with the classified-information-leaking U.S. President Donald Trump one day after this story breaks.

Turkish prosecutors ordered the arrest of 85 staff at the energy and education ministries under a investigation targeting the network of a U.S.-based cleric whom Ankara accuses of orchestrating last July's attempted coup, broadcaster CNN Turk reported on Tuesday.

No further details were immediately available. Some 50,000 people have been formally arrested as part of investigations targeting supporters of cleric Fethullah Gulen. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, who is visiting Washington, is seeking Gulen's extradition.
