The readership of Locus magazine have chosen their favorite fantasy and science fiction works of 2015, and the winners make for a very exciting summer reading list indeed!
Best sf novel: Ancillary Mercy, Ann Leckie ("The stunning conclusion to the New York Times bestselling trilogy that began with Ancillary Justice, the only novel to win the Hugo, Nebula, and Arthur C. Clarke Awards."
Best fantasy novel: Uprooted, Naomi Novik ("A bold new world rooted in folk stories and legends, as elemental as a Grimm fairy tale.")
Best YA: Shepherd's Crown, Terry Pratchett (Pratchett's last Discworld novel, a sweet, sad, hopeful novel that I loved without reservation)
Best debut: The Grace of Kings, Ken Liu ("Two men rebel together against tyranny—and then become rivals—in this first sweeping book of an epic fantasy series.")
Best anthology: Old Venus, George R.R. Martin & Gardner Dozois, eds. ("Travel back in time to a planet that never was but should have been: a young, rain-drenched world of fabulous monsters and seductive mysteries.")
Best collection: Trigger Warning, Neil Gaiman ("A rich cornucopia of horror and ghosts stories, science fiction and fairy tales, fabulism and poetry that explore the realm of experience and emotion.")
Best nonfiction: Letters to Tiptree, Alisa Krasnostein & Alexandra Pierce, eds. ("A selection of thoughtful letters written by science fiction and fantasy's writers, editors, critics and fans to celebrate Alice Sheldon, to recognise her work, and maybe in some cases to finish conversations set aside nearly thirty years ago.")
