We are giddy with excitement that Martin Olson and Olivia Olson are coming to our Weekend of Wonder in Southern California (September 18-20). Olivia is the voice of Marceline the Vampie Queen in Adventure Time. And her father Martin (who is also a screenwriter from Phineas And Ferb) voices Hunson Abadeer (a.k.a. the Lord of Evil).
"I am now addicted to Adventure Time; actually, I am in awe of it.” Director Guillermo del Toro expressed this opinion in his forward to this massive book of art from the cartoon series, and I agree with him.
I love everything about Adventure Time: the constrained-crazy character design, the candy-colored otherworldly sets, the untraditional-but-nevertheless-engrossing stories, and the bromantic relationship between Finn the Human and Jake the shape shifting dog, who embark on their Jodorowsky-esque adventures on a post-civilization Earth (all we really know is that our world ended as we knew it after the Great Mushroom War and the cartoon takes place about 1,000 years after).
This book is a deep dive into the Land of Ooo (the new name for Earth), with tons of concept sketches, marked-up scripts, and production art. It’s also an oral history of the development of the series, with interviews from the show’s creative team sprinkled throughout.
Here's an exclusive Blu-ray clip from 3rd season box set of Adventure Time, which went on sale this week. The Blu-ray and DVD both feature all 26 episodes from the series’ third season, as well as bonus features including episode commentaries for all 26 episodes, an interview with series creator Pendleton Ward, and an alternate show introduction. Plus, the packaging for the DVD and Blu-ray is a custom die-cut BMO slipcase, which transforms into a figurine of the beloved mini-computer.
Cartoon producer Fred Seibert posted this fun and informative sixteen-page manual with tips for drawing Finn & Jake from Pendleton Ward's Adventure Time series. Ward is one of the best character designers around! (Via Super Punch)

Martin Olson and his daughter Olivia Olson do so many cool things that it’s hard to know where to start. Martin is the head writer for the fantastic Disney animated series Phineas and Ferb. Not only has he written for every episode of the show, he’s also written over 200 songs for the series.
Martin’s 21-year-old daughter Olivia, plays the character Vanessa Doofenshmirtz on Phineas and Ferb, and she plays Marceline the Vampire Queen on Cartoon Network's animated series Adventure Time!, a cartoon my daughter Jane and I are obsessed with. Olivia sings on both series. (Here's Olivia singing “All I want for Christmas” in the movie Love Actually when she was 11).
Martin is the author of two terrific books, which I’ve reviewed on Boing Boing: The Encyclopaedia of Hell (published by Feral House) and The Adventure Time Encyclopaedia, which he writes as the character he plays in the series, Hunson Abadeer, aka the Lord of Evil, who coincidentally happens to be Marceline’s father..
