Oscar Mayer whips out a hotdog-dropping drone

Meat brand Oscar Mayer has announced the latest additions to its WienerFleet and frankly, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't relishing the news.

Their fleet already includes the iconic Wienermobile, the WienerMini (a hotdog-shaped MINI Cooper), and the four-wheeling, off-roading Wiener Rover. This summer, to introduce their new line of less-wurst* dogs, they've added two new branded vehicles. The first is the WienerCycle which is a three-wheeled moped designed for "tricky urban deliveries." It's pretty cool looking with its sweet sidecar which also acts a hotdog warming station.

But, the one that really kicks buns is the WienerDrone, a small 6.5 pound drone that drops warm meat from the sky. They report that it's the "first unmanned hot dog-carrying aircraft designed for remote location delivery."

If you're trying to ketchup, that means it will rain fewer cats and more dogs this summer.

*They're removing "all added nitrates and nitrites, by-products and artificial preservatives from the meat" in their "entire line of hot dogs."

Snap is developing drone for users to share overhead videos and photos: NYT report

One of the products that Snapchat owner Snap Inc. is developing as “a modern-day camera company” is a drone, reports the New York Times today.

Sources for this bold claim are “three people briefed on the project who asked to remain anonymous because the details are confidential.”

The drone would help users take videos and photographs from overhead, then share that visual data with Snap, and presumably, other users of the service.

Snap is scheduled to go public later this week in a long-anticipated IPO. Read the rest

Biodegradable single-use cardboard drones for remote deliveries

Drones are great for some kinds of deliveries, but operators usually want to recover their costly drone. For deliveries of medicine or supplies to remote areas, it may be more feasible to use cheap drones with a programmed one-way route.
