Etsy maker <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/CthulhuWakeUp">CthulhuWakeUp</a> made this stonking chestburster necklace pendant, and granted an interview to the Girl Gone Geek blog about his art:

<blockquote>
<p>
Practicing digital sculpture in my own time, I came up with the Cthulhu pendant and I really wanted to do something with it. I put it up in kickstarter and raised money to make 150 of them. I was thrilled not only that I was able to share my personal work but to make some money along the way too. After that I decided to work towards making a side business of it. Unfortunately, I can’t work as fast as I would like to towards that goal but I’m getting there!

<p>
For a mere $500 (which is truly a bargain here), Etsy seller Ramonpiper will make you a custom top-hat with a zoetrope inside it, whose moving images can be viewed through a porthole in its high cylinder.

<blockquote>
<p>

This is a leather top hat with an illuminated motorized praxinoscope. The praxinoscope was the next generation in moving picture technology after the zoetrope. It features six mirrored surfaces reflecting six images on a revolving cylinder that appear to move when the cylinder is set in motion. The switch in the bottom of the hat powers a battery operated motor that turns the cylinder and illumines two bulbs. There is a lens that magnifies the mirrors. The lens has a velvet-lined lens cover that swings from a brass boss and is affixed with studs at the front and rear. The hat is light enough to be worn at length and it will continue to operate while moving, walking, or doffing it to ladies.

<a href="http://www.twitter.com/magicpeacelove">PeaceLoveMagic</a> sez: "Etsy seller steampunk22 from Thin Gypsy Studios offers these <i>amazing</i> wings crafted from wood, brass and copper.

<i>Fully articulated. the wings rise and fall with the assistance of custom carved black walnut handles. The wings are affixed with bonded vinyl/leather straps with a range of sizing options.</i>

$2750 seems like a bargain, when you consider most steampunks have to die to get wings.

Judging by the images on their website/blog, Thin Gypsy Thief Studios seems to specialize in droolworthy steampunk accoutrements."

Etsy seller Niquegeek made these 3D printed stainless steel dice that resemble the beloved weighted companion cubes from the game Portal. They're hollow, and retail for $29.

<blockquote>
<p>

This unique die (singular dice) is made layer by layer in a 3D printer and then fired to fuse the metal particles into solid steel.
<p>
It is available in a numbered version, a version with just hearts (similar to the pendant I also make) and now a numbered version with a heart for the 1! It makes the perfect gift for the Portal fan in your life!
<p>
Each side of the cube measures 9/16" across and it is hollow so it's much lighter than it looks. Each pendant is unique and the finish may vary slightly from the images.

 April Winchell is shutting down <a href="http://www.aprilwinchell.com/">Regretsy</a>, the site where she has tirelessly cataloged the most horrible things on Etsy, from "an oil painting of a couple copulating inside a burger bun, called Sex Burger; a vulva-faced zombie ornament; a custom unicorn hoodie and a cat hairball necklace." She explains to Wired UK what it was like to run the site:

 <blockquote>
 <p>
 You would think that a joke and a photo wouldn't take that long to crap out, but this site was a time suck like you would not believe. There would be days when I would be on the couch with my laptop for 16 hours, just exhausted and in tears.
<p>
First, you have to find the stuff. And you have find great stuff. And that gets harder because the shock needle keeps moving. After a year or two you're like, "Eh, another teddy bear with a vagina, who cares." Bad crafts are like drugs; you have to keep upping the dose to feel anything.
<p>
Then you have to write the joke or do the Photoshop or come up with the contest. You do the coding and resize the images and read hundreds of emails every day. We mailed thousands of books and packages, we fulfilled hundreds of charity requests, we did sales and fundraising and fan meet-ups and Secret Santa for underprivileged kids, and at one point I was writing four posts a day. I loved every second of it. But you can't do that forever.
 </blockquote>

This handmade custom Super Mario belt, depicting the final level, was apparently created by Etsy seller <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/SalukiFeathers">SalukiFeathers</a>, though the belt is not actually available through that store. The corresponding Reddit thread is kind of a mess, with the poster claiming that the belt was made as a Christmas gift for himself and/or his brother, by his sister, and so forth. Nevertheless, this definitely falls into the category of "awesome nerdcraft," and also, "shut up and take my money."

OK, so this is pretty amazing: Etsy seller Brute Force Studios has leather, steamed-out buckler with an equally steampunk wrist-keyboard/touchpad, which talks to your computer over Bluetooth and just, you know, <em>wow</em>.

Wired profiles <a href="http://athey.deviantart.com/">Athey Moravetz</a>, a game developer who quit the business to raise her kids, who built <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/WarpZone?ref=top_trail">WarpZone</a>, a massively successful Etsy store selling 3D printed, nerdy cookie-cutters:

<blockquote>
<p>
<img src="http://craphound.com/images/il_fullxfull.405710912_hjgb.jpg" class="bordered" align="right">
While many homemakers have a secret cookie recipe, Moravetz has a small fleet of MakerBots. Her four MakerBot Replicators run simultaneously to keep up with the demand for her products. She says "I turn the bots on when I get up in the morning to get my daughter ready for school. So they turn on about 8 am, and they're running all day long from that point until an automated timer I've got them plugged into, turns them off at 3am. That way I can get in one last print started as I'm going to bed."
<p>
...Designing cookie cutters requires design skill — not every game character makes for a good cookie. Moravetz says "I had a lot of people requesting Dr. Who stuff — Tardis and Dalek specifically. A Dalek just doesn't read unless you include the inner detail — the silhouette is only readable to a certain degree. It needs the inner detail. But it needs a lot of small inner detail, and I try to avoid cutters going over three and a half inches in any direction. I made a four inch Dalek, but it took nearly two and a half hours to print, and when you're getting as many orders as I am right now, any cutter that takes that long to print is hardly worth it." Like Dr. Who, she outwitted the Dalek and now offers it for sale alongside the Tardis.
</blockquote>
