(Video link) Need any more convincing that Anne Hathaway made a groovy Catwoman? Here is an inside look (courtesy of Warner Bros.) at how the makers of The Dark Knight Rises approached one of Batman's slickest characters, and why they didn't return to the patent leather bondage route. When I think about how Hathaway went from this to her doomed role in Les Misérables, I also wonder if she and Christian Bale shared any starvation war stories.

After Ben Affleck denied that he was ever officially asked by Warner Bros. to direct the Justice League movie, a new name has been tossed into the internet rumor mill: Wachowski, as in Andy and Lana Wachowski of The Matrix (and Cloud Atlas, V For Vendetta, and Bound). The siblings are now apparently on the WB's short list to direct the DC Comics ensemble answer to Marvel's The Avengers. It's pure, unadulterated rumor right now, but it's a cool one, for sure. And Hugo Weaving would probably be on board for that, which is pretty boss.
On the blazing comet tail of the big Marvel-Joss Whedon-Avengers 2 news comes this strange announcement: Ben Affleck -- that Ben Affleck -- has been approached by Warner Bros. to direct DC's equally huge Justice League movie, which is set to go right up against The Avengers 2. While Affleck is a true, real, bona fide film director (Amy Ryan was nominated for an Oscar for Gone Baby Gone, Affleck's first film), isn't this a little soon for him? Are we ready for Ben Affleck to step into Joss Whedon's turf? Or should he step back and take a cue from Jon Favreau and Kenneth Branagh, and take one comic book superhero at a time? Who could go up against Joss Whedon with a Justice League movie right now? Is Kevin Smith jealous that he wasn't asked? But more importantly: Which city in the DC universe is Boston, and which DC superhero will have that accent?

Don't get too excited yet, but Peter Jackson is talking about possibly turning the two Hobbit movies he just completed filming -- The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again -- into a trilogy. Why? Because 1. Warner Bros. has the rights to the additional notes from J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy, which has all this groovy stuff in it that relates to The Hobbit, and 2. Jackson has all this extra footage lying around, just waiting to be seen. He spoke with Collider, warning that all of this is only in the earliest of stages:

Well, it’s very, very premature. We have got incredible source material with the appendices. There’s the novel, but then we also have the rights to use the 125 pages of additional notes where Tolkien expanded the world of The Hobbit. We’ve used some of that so far, and just in the last few weeks, as we’ve been wrapping up the shooting and thinking about the shape of the story, Philippa [Boyens], Fran [Walsh] and I have been talking to the studio about other things that we haven’t been able to shoot and seeing if we could possibly persuade them to do a few more weeks of shooting. We’d probably need more than a few weeks, actually, next year. The discussions are pretty early, so there isn’t anything to report, but there are other parts of the story that we’d like to tell, that we haven’t had the chance to tell yet. We’re just trying to have those conversations with the studio, at the moment.

I have a question: How hard would it be, really, for Peter Jackson -- a person who is Peter Jackson -- to "persuade" Warner Bros. that he can give the studio yet another epic Tolkien trilogy? Because that other one did fairly well, doncha know... (via Geek Tyrant)
