Portrait made of candy: Mike Douglas as Liberace

Jason Mecier, a "pop impressionistic artist" based in San Francisco who works in mosaic, sends word that he has just completed this candy portrait of Michael Douglas as Liberace. The medium: Mike & Ike's candy, 4,000 of them, and it took over 40 hours to assemble. The mosaic was inspired by the recent HBO movie Behind the Candelabra.

"It's a perfect movie. I hope they all win Emmy awards. I think it will be a new cult classic like Showgirls, Mommie Dearest and Magic Mike. I take back anything bad I ever said about Michael Douglas!"—Jason Mecier.

The artwork will be on display in the San Francisco group art show "The Unusual Suspects," Alley Cat Books Gallery, Friday, June 7 through Sunday, June 30, 2013. Opening reception: Sunday, June 9, 6-8 p.m.
