I asked Babes bassist (and Boing Boing contributor) Maureen Herman a few questions about their upcoming show and her non-fiction book.
What is the most exciting thing about playing again?
There are a lot of new fans whom I've been in touch with over the past few years online — they've never seen us play. Playing for a new generation of fans is going to be mind-blowingly fun. For some reason we have tons of fans in Brazil, so I hope we can go there!
My wife had dinner with you and drummer LoriBarbero] last week and the young waitress who served you said she was a huge fan of Babes in Toyland yet had never seen you play live. So now she will be able to!
I still forget that people besides 90s rockers know about us!
Do you have any new songs?
We don't have any new songs yet — I'm still re-learning the old ones, actually. We discussed it and yes — there are some new songs in us. That would be fun to write together again. But first we want to focus on a solid show of songs the audience is looking forward to hearing from before.
What is you autobiography called and when will it come out?
It's actually not an autobiography, it's a memoir. The difference is that an autobiography is the story of a life, while a memoir is stories from a life. It's called, It's a Memoir, Motherfucker and it will be out on MacMillan's new Flatiron Books in July 2016.
You'll be playing with the Babes for the first time in 18 years at the Roxy in LA, and there's more to come. How do you feel about reuniting?
It's either totally exciting or absolute insanity, as the single mother of an 11-year-old with a book deadline in five months!
