Finally I can watch Space:1999 without it looking washed out and terrible. This season one collection of the fantastic show is beautifully restored and far too expensive.
Earth's moon has been blown from orbit by a nuclear waste storage disaster. The crew of Moonbase Alpha must fight to survive as they, and the moon, hurtle through space meeting new life and exploring new planets. It is calamity after calamity for Commander John Koenig, played by Martin Landau. Landau's wife, and Mission Impossible co-star, Barbara Bain joins the cast as Dr. Russell.
I love the special effects even if they hold up poorly, they come from a time before CG took over. The Eagle space shuttle is a real favorite. The story lines are perfect for an episodic science fiction show and probably better than much of what we've had since.
A warning for fans: Maya, played by Catherine Schell, is only in the second season. I was disappointed to remember that, I loved her eyebrows. She does make an appearance as another character in season one.
If you want a beautiful, but expensive copy of the first season this is it.
