The Associated Press has published a number of official Islamic State documents, including one that mandates that women wear a veil to cover the head and torso.
“The beauty of women can hurt her and attract evil,” it reads.
A partial translation of what appears on the card:
The Islamic sharia puts great emphasis on Muslim women, which will protect her and make her precious and respected. And the conditions that are imposed on her regarding her clothes and makeup is to block the obscenity as a result of wearing makeup. This is not to restrict her freedom. Women living under Islamic State rule must cover themselves including their faces and the covering cannot be decorated, tight, transparent, fragrant or resemble the clothes of a man or infidel.
