Nothing will stop George R.R. Martin from completing his Game of Thrones novels. But the author and fantasy/science fiction icon will show up in the eighth epsiode of Syfy's series 'Z Nation,' which returns to TV tonight, Friday September 11, at 10 p.m. In the episode where Martin appears, he has been imprisoned by a character known as Collector, who kidnaps celebrity zombies. Collector chains George to a desk for his own nefarious purposes, but evidently none of this gets in the way of George finishing the damn books everyone wants to read so badly.
The bestselling author will have a cameo during the second season of Syfy’s post-apocalyptic thriller Z Nation playing himself as a zombie, EW has exclusively learned. And as you can see from the photo above and the two others below, Martin is quite undead while signing his own books (and even tries to munch on one brainy copy). The title of Zombie Martin’s book is a fun tease — “A Promise of Spring,” which plays off A Dream of Spring — the expected title of his eventual seventh (and presumably conclusive) novel in his epic A Song of Ice and Fire saga. Currently Martin is working on Book 6, The Winds of Winter.
Declared Martin: “I just want to prove to my fans that even in the Zombie Apocalypse, the Song of Ice and Fire books will still come out!”

Lobelia Sackville-Baggins is a Lord of the Rings Hobbit, one of the few, rare female characters in that series, and she's a nasty piece of work: a bitter enemy of Frodo and Bilbo, she is mostly depicted trying to either steal their stuff or buy it at deep discounts from them: she ends her days […]
Octavia Butler (previously), the brilliant Afrofuturist, McArthur Genius Grant-winning science fiction writer, died far, far too soon, leaving behind a corpus of incredible, voraciously readable novels, and a community of writers who were inspired by her example.
‘To Be Taught, If Fortunate’ Becky Chambers latest, set in the same universe as her Wayfarer series, revolves around one of my favorite ‘time-travel’ tropes, long space flights at near the speed of light. Augmented humanity is sent off to explore the stars, discover their secrets and report back to Earth-based humanity. During their long, […]

On the one hand, nostalgia is “a corruption of the historical impulse,” according to William Gibson. On the other hand, “Super Mario Bros.” will never not be cool. Luckily, there’s a way to satisfy that retro gaming while still keeping an eye on the future: The GameShell Kit. This thing is simultaneously the last handheld […]
The field of data analytics can get intimidating, even for business professionals who constantly rely on it. But at its heart, its purpose is to simplify. To take mounds of information and distill their insights into a single clear picture. Currently, the go-to software for painting that picture is Tableau. And if you want to […]
