The Hollywood Reporter arranged for a sit-down between Bernie Sanders and Spike Lee (who recently spoke for Sanders at a rally in the South Bronx) and the two talked (MP3) about the lay of the electoral land.
Lee and Sanders talked frankly about race, Trump, trade, labor, and the Sanders campaign's path to the presidency. Sanders talked about his views on guns -- a soft spot that the Clinton campaign has targeted:
Vermont and rural America, people talk about guns, you know what they're talking about? They're talking about hunting. And it is something that my state, tens and tens of thousands of people do. They take their kids into the woods, there's target practice, there are antique gun shows, and that's what guns are. I do know that guns mean something very different around urban America. And what we have got to do is get a handle on this horrific gun violence. There's no question about that. I have a D-minus voting record from the NRA. D-minus voting record. And I have stood up to them for years. In 1988, Spike, I ran for the United States Congress in the state of Vermont. I lost that election because I was the only candidate who said, "You know what, maybe we should not be selling and distributing military-style assault weapons in this country, weapons designed just to kill people?" I lost by three points, and perhaps that was the reason.

Canada has strict regulations on partisan advertising during the election period, whether they be from candidates, parties or third-party organisations. … Keith Brooks, […]
As long as he’s only up against one candidate and they don’t do anything stupid, Trump would lose to a sausage in 2020. Fox News has him deep underwater against every likely Dem candidate. A Fox News poll released Thursday showed President Trump losing head-to-head matchups against four of the top Democratic presidential primary contenders. […]
Wefail offers this charming collection of four banknotes, each featuring one of the four “horsemen of the apocalypse”, at least when it comes to the demise and presumed annihilation of Britain’s political stability. $50 a set. Four Wefail banknotes depicting the four horsemen: May, Rees-Mogg, Bojo and Thatcher. Early in 2019 I was asked to […]
There’s no shortage of stories about the benefits of cannabidiol, that benign (and non-psychoactive) cousin of THC. Some have been using it for years to deal with pain, stress, and sleeplessness. And the more people use it, the more discussion there is about how to use it. While there’s no shortage of quality edibles on […]
Are we done with capsule coffee makers yet? Sure, they’re easy. But they are not so easy on the environment, and it’s debatable whether they actually make a better cup. Luckily, there’s never been a better time to switch back to the good old reliable drip method – especially when drip coffeemakers have quietly been […]
If there’s one thing that stayed consistent through the last decade or so of tech industry turmoil, it’s the love affair between techies and Linux. There’s just a ton you can do with the OS, and its open-source format means you can customize your rig from the ground up. Apparently not content with that level […]
