In my weekly segment on KCRW's "Press Play" news program with host Madeleine Brand, we listen to Elon Musk wax poetic about artificial intelligence and whether life might be a dream–and his plans to send humans to Mars by 2025.
When SpaceX and Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk spoke at the Code Conference in Rancho Palos Verdes this week, he said that humans may all be cyborgs in an elaborate computer simulation. Musk also said humans will travel to Mars by 2024, landing there in 2025. Nine years from now. Meanwhile, we're still waiting for that Hyperloop.
We also talk about Amazon suing some of its own retailers for fake paid reviews, and the government wanting to get all up in your biometric data without disclosing this to you, or giving you recourse if you're unfairly targeted.
Life in our surveillance state feels more like a William Gibson or Cory Doctorow novel every day.
