Boaters stumble on massive Caribbean gyre of plastic garbage

Nothing like going to a tropical dive spot known to be "untouched" by humans, only to find a giant plastic garbage patch stretching as far as the eye can see. The Doobie Brothers music adds a nice touch.

Caroline Power uploaded this footage from off Roatán, about 40 miles north of Honduras, and included a clip where one diver in their party braved the giant patch. Yuck. The recent hurricanes in the region probably didn't help with this.

The Caribbean gyre isn't even in the top five globally, either, according to this map:
