GOP candidate for Maine legislature says he's sorry for calling Parkland massacre survivor a 'skinhead lesbian'

Leslie Gibson, who is running unopposed for Maine House 57th District seat, says he is sorry, so sorry, for calling 18-year-old Emma Gonzalez a "skinhead lesbian." Gonzalez, who survived the February 2018 Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida, co-founded the gun-control advocacy group Never Again MSD, and has a Twitter account with more followers than the NRA does.

From HuffPost:

"I would like to extend to you my most sincere apology for how I addressed you. It was wrong and unacceptable," Gibson said in a tweet. "You are doing work that is important to you. I would like to extend my hand in friendship and understanding to you."

Gibson, a lifetime NRA member, took to Twitter to attack Gonzalez after seeing an article in The Hill about the teen surpassing the NRA in Twitter followers.

"There is nothing about this skinhead lesbian that impresses me and there is nothing that she has to say unless you're a frothing at the mouth moonbat," he wrote.

Gibson deleted his personal Twitter account and has set his @gibson_house Twitter account to private, which is an unusual move for someone who aspires to be a public servant.
