Afghan toddler was named "Donald Trump" for "good fortune," but name has brought family only bad fortune so far

In August 2016, 28-year-old Sayed Asadullah Poya and his wife Jamila from Afghanistan had a newborn baby to name. Sayed had just read Donald Trump's book, Trump: How to Get Rich, and when he saw that his baby had blonde hair, the name Donald Trump sounded like a real good choice. He thought the name would bring "good fortune."

But so far, the name has been as crummy for the family as it has for the U.S.

For starters, Sayed's parents were livid about their grandson having a non-Muslim name. "Every day the situation got worse," Poya recalled, according to Oddity Central. "Every day in the house, when I was calling my son Trump, my father got angrier and angrier, until finally my father couldn't tolerate it anymore."

The local Imam was also disgusted, and spent an entire sermon talking about the insult to their religion. The pressure from friends and family forced the Poyas to move to Kabul. But things didn't get better for them.

Via Oddity Central:

Last week, a group of angry people asked Poya's landlord to kick him and his family out as punishment for giving his boy an "infidel name". Others have accused him of trying to win the US President's favor in order to improve his chances of gaining asylum in the United States, something that Sayed vehemently denies.

The Afghan man and his wife have had to make their Facebook profiles private after being bombarded with negative comments and threats. Someone even wrote that four men were coming to kill them for their sin. Sayed admits to feeling intimidated and fearing for the safety of his family, but that doesn't mean he's considering changing the Donald Trump's name.

But death threats, forced relocation, probable bullying to his son, and snubs from everyone they know won't deter the bull-headed Sayed from changing the toddler's name. "It's likely…that he will be harassed or beaten by his classmates… "I won't reconsider [his name]. To hell with the other people." Sounds like something the big Trump would say.
