Elite was the original 3D space-trading game, spinning a vast universe to explore from a few lines of code, birthing a series that's still going strong. It famously came boxed with a novella by Rob Holdstock to give literary life to its procecurally-generated expanse, but did you know there was also Elite: The Musical?
By Aidan Bell, brother of Elite co-creator Ian Bell, the musical clocks in at 1 hour and 44 minutes and you can listen to the whole thing right here, right now in your browser. [via]
The Elite Musical seems to have gone forgotten, which is a real shame because it's amazing even if it's a bit dated. So I took it into my own hands to stitch all the audio together to try and log to forgotten Musical. One problem is that the quality in audio changes scene to scene, it seems like some of the songs where recorded live while others where done in a studio setting. However I did my best to get the audio in chronological order. There is some missing audio at the start of scene 6 and some music has crowed cheers, i decided to leave them in as I felt it brought some life to the musical knowing that this was preformed in front of a live audience.
Nate Crowley wrote for Rock Paper Shotgun about the broken (as of this writing) economy in Planet Zoo. The game allows players to raise animals and then sell them for money or the rare currency called conservation credits. BigBread’s No Destination is a “game” in the classic spirit of Desert Bus, and you don’t even have to make the occasional steering adjustment. Just sit and enjoy the journey, looking out of a train coach at the procedurally-generated hills and woods of wherever it is you are. It’s just the first entry I’ve checked […]
Vinyl is officially back. People are hearing the proof behind the initial “retro” excitement: that records really do have a richer sound. And if you haven’t switched to old-school records for serious listening, it’s a new golden age. Why? Because quality turntables like the Altec Lansing ALT-500 are finally available to a market other than […]
Between all of our apps, streaming devices, Bluetooth speakers, and energy-sucking decorations, paying for utilities each month can be…brutal. In fact, the average household spends roughly $70 a month on the water bill alone. That number might not seem terribly significant, but when you add it up, that’s $840 a year — a pretty significant […]
Seems like no matter what kind of wireless earbud you buy, you’re sacrificing something: Sound for longevity, battery life for durability, the list goes on. Finally, it seems like the tech is starting to come together for the full package in a few newer models. Case in point: These PaMu Slide Bluetooth 5 In-Ear Headphones. […]
