Forced to abandon their homes and livelihoods in search of food and water, more than 8,000 people are newly displaced each day. Water is scarce. Animals are dying of thirst and families must travel further and further to find the nearest water source. People's health conditions are deteriorating due to severe malnourishment and associated illnesses, as well as outbreaks of cholera and measles. As many as 6.2 million of Somalia's 12.3 million population are in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
