Bert and Ernie made headlines today after Mark Saltzman, who wrote for the show for 14 years starting in 1984, said in Queerty interview: "I always felt that without a huge agenda, when I was writing Bert and Ernie, they were [gay]."
In response, Sesame Workshop released a statement insisting that Bert and Ernie are just "best friends.... They remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation."
