Facebook says it temporarily blocked Dan Scavino because he was behaving like a bot. Seems reasonable.
Trump White House social media director Dan Scavino got a personal apology from Facebook, after some features on his account were blocked for a few hours on Monday. The social media firm says its automated systems identified his activity as likely being that of a bot.
On Monday, Scavino posted on Facebook that his ability to reply to comments on the platform had been blocked, which was, of course, an outrage and injustice like none anyone has ever known in the history of mankind, truly.
"AMAZING. WHY ARE YOU STOPPING ME from replying to comments followers have left me - on my own Facebook Page!!?? People have the right to know. Why are you silencing me???," Scavino wrote, with righteous outrage.
Donald Trump, of course, tweeted about it the following day.
On Tuesday, Trump tweeted he'd be "looking into" the issue with Scavino's account, which by now has been restored, with aforementioned apology.
Later in the day, during a joint press conference with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, he returned to the issue, saying, "There's discrimination, there's big discrimination," and adding, "Something's happening with those groups of folks that are running Facebook, and Google, and Twitter, and I do think we have to get to the bottom of it."
As in Scavino's case, such complaints about bias have often been found to stem from legitimate violations of the platforms' rules or mistakes by the platforms or both, rather than actual discrimination against conservatives.
In Ohio, a racist 20-year-old man was arrested over the weekend for threatening to attack a Jewish community center, in a post on Instagram.
Illegitimate, popular-vote-losing, manifestly unfit United States President Donald Trump tweeted some more crazy shit on Twitter today. “Wow, Report Just Out! Google manipulated from 2.6 million to 16 million votes for Hillary Clinton in 2016 Election! This was put out by a Clinton supporter, not a Trump Supporter! Google should be sued. My victory was […]
Illegitimate, popular vote losing, and manifestly unfit United States President Donald Trump said on Monday that at a recent dinner with Tim Cook — what, you didn’t think they hung out and shared meals? — the Apple CEO made a “very compelling argument” that Apple may lose its competitive edge to Samsung because of Trump’s […]
The field of data analytics is growing as fast as the internet itself. Self-driving cars, airline pricing, and huge marketing campaigns are all driven by the insights that data scientists can distill out of vast sums of information. Even with the help of powerful software like Python, it’s a highly skilled position. But those skills […]
If you’re marketing on the web, your Google-fu needs to be strong – and up to date. Without a firm grasp on what drives traffic, you’ll never be able to take the wheel. That’s why even if you know where to put your keywords, a little extra effort goes a long way on any marketer’s […]
Want to keep the dentist away? A little tooth care at morning and night isn’t bad, but it won’t keep the stains from smoking or fried foods at bay for long. If you enjoy your food and want to avoid the consequences, an upgrade from that old analog toothbrush can make a huge difference. Among […]
