Dinosaur for sale

This is Stan, one of the most complete T. rex fossils ever excavated. And now, it can be yours! This 67-million-year-old beast, measuring 37' x 13' x 6', will be on the auction block at Christie's on October 6. It's expected to sell for as much as $8 million. The last comparable sale was in 1997 when Chicago's Field Museum of Natural History paid $8.36 million for a T. rex named Sue. I hope a museum purchases Stan too! You can see the fossil through the windows of Christie's Manhattan flagship location near Rockefeller Center through October 21. From the New York Times:

The fossil is named after the amateur paleontologist Stan Sacrison, who first discovered the skeleton in 1987 on privately owned land in the Hell Creek Formation in the northwestern United States. The dinosaur's remains were excavated five years later with the landowner's consent and taken to the Black Hills Institute in South Dakota for study.
