The super-swanky mod world of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's "Supermarionation"

We've talked here on Boing Boing before about how inspirational the various "supermarionation" puppet TV shows of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson were to generations of dreamers and future creative types growing up in the 1960s and 70s. Shows like Thunderbirds, Fireball XL5, Super Car, Captain Scarlet, and later the live action UFO, likely launched untold numbers of careers in aerospace, engineering, model making, special effects, sci-fi movie making and writing, and more.

One aspect often underappreciated in all that the Anderson's did was the amazing mod styling and design found in all of these programs. A lot of this was Sylvia's contribution to the look, feel, and fashion of the shows.

This piece on Messy Nessy Chic takes a look at the various shows from a style perspective and includes lots of photos. Messy Nessy also links to an amazing Flickr gallery of other "modtastic" films and shows.
