The Grateful Dead Movie is not just a great concert film of the band's 1974 gigs at Winterland in San Francisco. It's also a watershed moment for Deadhead culture, as it documents the burgeoning community in its early days.
Jerry Garcia personally oversaw completion from its filming to its release in 1977. By all accounts it was a stressful and contentious project, which is strange given how trippy and chill the vibe is.
Lots of wonderful psychedelic animation up front, too!
