Tokyo hotel apologizes for "Japanese only" and "foreigners only" elevator signs

A Tokyo hotel that placed notices reading "Japanese only" and "foreigners only" on elevators doors has removed them after people objected.

Akasaka Excel Hotel Tokyu said in a statement it "had no intention to discriminate" against foreigners. The hotel said it only wanted to keep Japanese and foreigners separated due to Covid concerns. "We apologize for having caused misunderstanding," it said.
