The State Correctional Institution Pittsburgh is for sale! Opened in 1882 and finally closed just four years ago, the 20.2-acre facility is located in the Marshall-Shadeland neighborhood and includes the warden's house that sits about a mile away from the main complex. Apparently a couple is hoping to purchase the house on its own for $140,000 but according to State Sen. Wayne Fontana who is working to get the property sold, the actual prison needs real work including asbestos removal and soil remediation. Meanwhile, Netflix, Showtime, and Amazon have used the prison as a shooting location. Fontana says the only unwelcome bidders are those who would develop the prison as a gambling facility.

Before [the pandemic] hit, a group from New York had an interest in perhaps turning the site into an entertainment center, Fontana said.
While some of that interest now appears to be rekindling, it hasn't reached the serious stage, Mr. Fontana acknowledged.
"There are people who want to see it, look at it and tour it," he said. "That's about it."
The legislation did not list a price for the property. It requires the Department of General Services to select the proposal that "offers the best value and return on investment."
