Gabrielle Petito and her fiance Brian Laudrie went on an oft-Instagrammed #vanlife trip, but only Laundrie returned. His indifferent and unhelpful behavior since has made him a "person of interest" in her disappearance, and now his attorney says his whereabouts are unknown.
The attorney wrote to reporters, "Be advised, the whereabouts of Brian Laundrie are currently unknown. The FBI is currently at the Laundrie residence removing property to assist in locating Brian. As of now, the FBI is looking for both Gabby and Brian."
Bertolino said Laundrie's parents last saw him Tuesday morning.
Police in North Port, Florida, later tweeted that their conversation at the Laundrie home was complete
A point of caution in all this. We keep demanding that this guy "talk to the cops" and "prove his innocence", but that impulse of ours is a toxic way of dealing with the likelihood that he killed or abandoned his girlfriend and knows full well that it is not in his interest to talk to cops. Wanting him to prove his innocence is really about us wanting to feel better about the things we suspect about the things we don't know.
It's much healthier for us to just accept that he's got no reason to talk to the cops and remove that particular idée fixe from our perception of the case. He will not help find her. He will get what's coming to him.
