The playa's first meme–Eat F*ck Kill–is part of a Sotheby's auction

WTF: Never in a million years would I have guessed that the message on some buttons I picked up at a flea market in 1997 would still have legs over 24 years later. In 2017 I told you about EAT FUCK KILL (EFK), the playa's first meme. Well, here we are in 2021 and EFK is now part of a charitable online Sotheby's auction co-produced by the Burning Man Project!

How did this even happen? Well, earlier this year I got a call from a longtime playa pal, Burning Man Founding Member Harley Dubois, asking if I'd consider including EFK in an auction that benefits the Project's Arts and Civic Engagement programs, their long-term survival, and their artists. She told me that when she thought of early playa culture, she thought of EFK. How could I say no?

Bidding opens on Thursday, September 30 for Boundless Space: The Possibilities of Burning Man but its catalogue is available to preview now. If you don't see the EFK lot, keep checking back, they're adding pieces on a rolling basis. I haven't seen the other works, but they promise "an eclectic, genre-defying selection of artworks, collectibles, mutant vehicles, NFTs, and experiences."
