TikToker satirizes campus tour guides

With a hunched stance and a weird backwards-walk, Chicago comedian Kim Quindlen plays the character of an awkward campus tour guide. Commenters call her a female version of Dwight Schrute. One comment with over 150,000 likes says "this is better than SNL."

"Have you ever heard of ice breakers?" she asks in the video, and without pause, instructs everyone to say their name and an aminal that starts with the same letter as their name. "I'm Kangaroo Kim."

"We have a great downtown area… where older students can go to the… restaurants… to drink apple juice [chuckle]… beer." she says. She displays a comical commitment to her job. When she doesn't know the answer to a basic question, she apologizes through tears.

In a comment, Kim says that her husband records her. She tells him the jokes ahead of time so that his laughs don't ruin the video. "He's a snorter," she says.

The video comes at a time when college tours are hard to land. Bloomberg reports that colleges struggle to provide the tour capacity that prospective students demand. As students navigate a tangled admissions process, the on-campus walking tour has become a staple of the college search.

For many high school juniors, seniors and their families, the college visit is a rite of passage — akin to window shopping for a very expensive item.
