How was Halloween celebrated in the early 1900s?

In this Kaz Rowe video, she takes a look back at how the holiday of Halloween was celebrated, in the US, in the early years of the 20th century. What she finds is a very different emphasis than today. Rather than maximum frights and gore, it was more about spookiness, mystery, an air of whimsy, fortune-telling and flirting, and a celebration of nature.
