When did multiverse movies become so popular?
Every generation has a narrative angle or genre that piques their interest like no other. In the late 70s and early 80s, audiences became obsessed with science fiction and space operas after the rise of Star Wars. The post-Star Wars boom was so powerful that it even helped revive the Star Trek franchise in both film and television.
Even though many headlines on film blogs and magazines claim that audiences are beginning to suffer from superhero fatigue, we're still knee-deep in the superhero boom. However, even though superheroes still rule the roost, we're slowly starting to see the emergence of a new subgenre.
At the time of writing this piece, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, which is a multiverse film, is dominating the box office. And while the film has been praised for its innovative script, it still has one cliche that all multiverse films seem fated to share.
