Zohran Mamdani and Brad Lander, two Democratic candidates in New York City's mayoral race, cross-endorsed one another in a show of solidarity against well-funded front-runner Andrew Cuomo, who resigned as governor after being accused by numerous women of harassment. Mamdani and Lander even did a funny video together.
The mutual endorsements make sense as the party's primary allows voters to rank their choices rather than pick just one. The nightmare scenario for every candidate is being no-one's second pick in a race where the first pick has little chance of winning an outright majority.
For the same reason, it's just as important for primary voters to not rank Cuomo at all. He's already stated he plans to run as an independent whether or not he wins the Democratic nod, he's barely campaigned on the assumption that he will win without effort, and his would be the kind of sleazy, corruption-tinged administration that already comprises his life's work.
