A viral story of a sausage-loving kookaburra too fat to fly resurfaced online. The tale even inspired Hazmat Modine's 2019 song Too Fat To Fly.
The Internet is huge. I've been farting around on it as my full-time job for over 15 years and there's tons of stuff I miss. Take this sausage-addicted kookaburra, for example. The little bastard ate so much wurst that he couldn't get his fat ass in the air. It's a story that came out a decade ago. It seems like a lot of folks know about it but me? right over my head. I only discovered the mystery meat-loving bird earlier today on social media. I had a chuckle (but not a long one for I too am chubby) and then reposted it for my friends to see. One of those friends is Wade Schuman: vocalist and harmonica and guitar maestro for New York City-based band Hazmat Modine. Wade heard the kookaburra tale as well, years ago. It inspired him to write the song Too Fat To Fly, for the band's 2019 album Box of Breath. Who knew? Add it to the massive list of artistic prompts inspired by wonderful things being found on the web.
