Our pal Bonnie Burton from LucasFilm says: "Our very own Starwars.com designer Craig Drake created this AWESOME '80s-inspired Princess Leia poster!" Snip from the description:
For the uninitiated (or too young to remember), artist Craig Drake's "The Princess" artwork is reminiscent of the pervasive style of illustrator Patrick Nagel, whose posters and prints became fixtures of interior design during the 1980s (older fans might remember the artist's famous cover illustration for Duran Duran's Rio album from 1982).
MAD About Star Wars
is a lot more than your typical MAD magazine anthology. The author, Jonathan Bresman, was a Lucasfilm employee before he became a senior editor at MAD, so there's a really great sense of how Lucasfilm and George Lucas (a legendary MAD Magazine fan) reacted to each of the many spot-on, hold-your-gut parodies MAD ran over the years. — Read the rest
I dig this fun special effects video "documenting" San Francisco Fleet Week if the fleet were Imperial craft from Star Wars. Seen above, a Lambda-class shuttle soars past the Golden Gate Bridge. Death Star Over San Francisco(Current.com, thanks Vann Hall!) — Read the rest
The new Indiana Jones Heritage trading cards from Topps also include sketch cards from a huge variety of artists. Patrick Schoenmaker posted his sketch cards at his blog and they're fantastic. There's apparently one sketch card in every 54 packs, but I wish all of the cards in the set were sketch cards. — Read the rest
Alfred Hitchcock, who is known to have noshed on many a well-baked russet in his time, would no doubt smile upon this tuber-y remake of the famous Psycho shower scene. I believe this is what's meant by the expression "bad carbs." — Read the rest
Luke Skywalker's original Jedi lightsaber will be carried into space by NASA astronauts aboard space shuttle Discovery this October. Bonnie Burton says:
To commemorate the historic event, Star Wars characters visited the Oakland International Airport where Chewbacca handed the lightsaber over to NASA's Space Center Houston during a special ceremony on Aug.

Bonnie Burton took this photo of a Darth Vader helmet on display at the Star Wars Celebration IV convention. A bunch of artists were invited to participate by painting a helmet.
Walking through The Vader Project exhibit at Celebration IV is like taking a stroll through a Darth Vader tribute done by the coolest lowbrow and urban artists on the planet.
( posted from Guatemala / Xeni ) Bonnie Burton from Lucasfilm says,
Can't make it to the biggest Star Wars convention on the planet this week? Fire up your lightsaber and take a look at the official starwars.com blog coverage of Celebration IV in Los Angeles, CA.
The long-awaited episode #12 of the Boing Boing Boing podcast is out! Sorry about the long delay since episode #11, but these homemade audio krafts take many fortnights for our tree-dwelling legion of squirrel-helpers to fashion from acorn husks and pine needles! — Read the rest
For the last couple of months, I've been buying a lot of instructional drawing books. Most of them turn out to be pretty bad — not because the art isn't good, but because the artist doesn't do a good job of explaining what to do. — Read the rest
