Get ready to sing. With thousands of other people. Alone at home. That's the idea behind the upcoming Choir! Choir! Choir! Facebook Live event, "Choir!ntine: EPIC Social Distan-Sing-Along!"
The experts have spoken and we’re seriously taking their advice that sticking close to home, and limiting exposure to other people will help reduce the spread of the corona virus. At the same time, it’s been sad to have to postpone gigs in Toronto and around the world. But just because we're now in a time of “social distancing”, doesn’t mean we can’t hang out, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do this Tuesday!
Presenting: "Choir!ntine" - An EPIC Social Distan-Sing-Along!
Starting at 8pm EST, DaBu will broadcast from their living room and everyone is invited to log on and sing with us. And just like our shows, we’ll hang out, share some laughs and hold our C!ommunity close. Whether you've ever come out to Choir! or not, you are invited to join us online.
Want to be part of it?
First, download the lyrics. You'll be belting out familiar songs like "Lean on Me," Bowie's "Space Oddity." and the Golden Girls' theme, "You've Got a Friend."
Second, head to the Choir! Choir! Choir! Facebook page on Tuesday, March 17 (8 p.m. Eastern/5 p.m. Pacific).
Third, SING YOUR LITTLE HEART OUT. (Again, home alone.)

The good folks at Choir! Choir! Choir! (previously) are still doing their thing, and now they've included both Patti Smith and Stewart Copeland to play along:
On April 13, 2019, Patti Smith + Stewart Copeland (on percussion) joined Choir! Choir! Choir! at Onassis Festival 2019: Democracy Is Coming, co-presented by The Public Theatre and Onassis USA. Together, we sang Patti Smith's anthem "People Have The Power" with a sold-out crowd and Stewart Copeland played percussion, especially a Brazilian samba frying pan!

Choir! Choir! Choir! have shared the video of the collaboration ahead of their special concert along the US/Mexico border. Taking place October 13th at California’s Boarder Field State Park, the performance will find some 300 people on the Tijuana side and 500 on the San Diego side singing “With a Little Help from My Friends” together. Presented by University of California San Diego’s ArtPower, the border show is part of C!C!C!’s fall tour, tickets for which can be found here.

Rick Astley is getting around lately. We recently saw him on a Canadian morning show for a live, in-person rickroll. Now he's singing his 1987 hit song, "Never Gonna Give You Up," with Choir! Choir! Choir! in Toronto.
Here's what Choir! Choir! Choir! wrote about it:

In March 2018, we made a video asking pop legend Rick Astley to come sing with us.
We just had a feeling it would be a perfect fit.
HE SHOWED UP two weeks later!!
And guess what?
We were right,
But it was even more incredible than we could have expected.
Rick looks and sounds better than ever.
He's back in a BIG way writing and performing all new material, Slaying it all over again.
He is the real deal, and always has been.
He also challenged another musician to come sing with us,
So look for that at the end of the video...
Rick is back on tour throughout the US right now, and his band is killer, So look out for him making his way to your town!
Now enjoy the best version of Never Gonna Give You Up EVER!
At the Under the Radar Festival in New York City earlier this month, a crowd of soon-to-be singers rehearsed "back ups" for David Bowie's "Heroes." After an hour, they were performing the song with David Byrne as a Choir! Choir! Choir! tribute to Bowie.
According to Consequence of Sound, Byrne gave his thoughts on working with the choir group, in a press release:
"There is a transcendent feeling in being subsumed and surrendering to a group. This applies to sports, military drills, dancing… and group singing. One becomes a part of something larger than oneself, and something in our makeup rewards us when that happens. We cling to our individuality, but we experience true ecstasy when we give it up. So, the reward experience is part of the show.”
Byrne is beginning an ambitious tour in March for his new album, American Utopia. The album is his first solo LP in 14 years. Read the rest
