RSS is a standard means of summarizing the contents of web pages and send them around to other people so that you can, e.g., build news readers that aggregate headlines from across the Internet. The RSS standards-definition saga appears to be coming to a dramatic conclusion. The various camps are all coming around to the same place, and Rael's written up his treatise on the RSS future here. Worth a read, even if you're not in the RSS priesthood or laity.
