Mikko Välimäki succesfully publicly defended his dissertation on 3th of June at Helsinki University of Technology. Mikko is a tech lawyer and has worked with several free / open source software companies. He was also the first chairman of Electronic Frontier Finland.

Update: As I suspected, there is a long list of CC-licensed dissertations that predate this one. For example, Mike Gehm of Duke University Department of Physics, 2003. Let this update stand as proof that such a list exists — no need to send in any others, thanks!
