Online fundraiser for mom being sued by the RIAA

Online activists have established a fund to help Patricia Santangelo fight back against an RIAA lawsuit.

I've blogged before (Link, Link, Link) about Patricia Santangelo, a computer illiterate mom of five from New York whom the RIAA is suing because someone is alleged to have used her computer to share music files (one theory is that a friend of one of her kids may have used some file-sharing software after school). She's refused to pay off the entertainment companies: instead, she's fighting back in court.

Unfortunately, she's run out of money to pay her legal fees. Now, people who love justice are raising funds to help her continue her courageous stand, which, in the end, is for all of us: in a world where the music industry has decided it's more profitable to sue its customers rather than woo them with superior products and services, we need a precedent that simple accusations of infringement are not grounds for being forced to turn thousands of dollars over to the likes of Sony BMG and Warner Music.
