Ben sez, "Australian Attorney-General Philip Ruddock (and rights-holder groups sock puppet) has been forced to accept changes to his copyright ammendment bill, making it legal for users to *gasp* download music onto their iPods and record TV shows using their VCR. Consumers could have faced $1,320 on-the-spot fines under the proposed changes, even if they were unaware they were infringing copyright. The ammendments were so retrograde that Google claimed they would cripple their business in Australia. The revised amendments still suck but it's better than it was. A minor victory for common sense!"
(Thanks, Ben!)
