Imagine no DRM — with apols to John Lennon

After Steve Jobs announced that he'd remove DRM from the iTunes Music Store "in a heartbeat" if rightsholders would let him, Clay wrote and recorded a new version of John Lennon's "Imagine," with lyrics reflecting his hope that Steve will make good on his promise. There are plenty of indie artists who'd love to have their music released through the iTMS without DRM — Steve promised he'd get rid of the DRM "in a heartbeat." I'm also waiting to hear whether Steve will take the DRM off the Disney/Pixar material sold through iTunes.

I was among the multitude of anti-DRM folks who were amazed and somewhat heartened today at Steve Jobs' breaching of the DRM taboo… and this evening, a song parody suddenly came to mind.

After a couple of hours scattered between Google, TextEdit and Garageband, the linked file was created. With apologies to John Lennon.

"You may say I'm a pirate / but I'm not the only one…"
