The Academy of Art University here in San Francisco – the biggest art school in the country – recently expelled a student for writing a violent short story, and then fired his instructor for teaching a story by David Foster Wallace the administration also found offensive.

Joan Aiken — a kids' author for grownups

A third literary link for today. Kelly "Stranger Things Happen" Link turned me on to the "Wolves of Willoughby Chase" books by Joan Aiken last fall in NYC, and I've been hooked ever since. These are a series of juvenile adventure stories set in an alternate Victorian England (and abroad, on the high-seas). — Read the rest
