[Video Link] Book of Sith, by Daniel Wallace, just came out today. It features a battery-powered electronic case.

Book Of Sith Boing Boing Excl-1 The black-and-red pyramid-shaped Sith case appears innocuous. But with the touch of a button, the door of the case lifts, accompanied by lights and Star Wars sound effects. The secrets within are revealed— the Book of Sith slides into view.

The Sith have existed in the galaxy for centuries, lurking, waiting for their chance to seize control. As various Sith Lords emerged and rose to power, they recorded their thoughts, exploits, and plots for Sith control of the galaxy. When they fell, their knowledge vanished with them forever. Or so it seemed. . . .

Book Of Sith Boing Boing Excl 2-1 Over the years, these writings were passed among numerous Sith and Jedi, who added their comments to the pages. In his quest for domination, Darth Sidious tracked down what remained of five pivotal Sith texts written by his most powerful predecessors. Then, drawing on the knowledge within the compiled pages, he wrote a sixth text—his own manifesto. Together, these documents, along with several collected objects associated with them, shed light on the philosophy, achievements, and failures of the Sith Order. For years, this collection remained hidden, existing as legend only. But now all who are tempted may unlock the Book of Sith and delve into the dark side. . . .

Screen Shot 2012-02-10 At 3.54.56 Pm From the creators of The Jedi Path, in collaboration with Lucasfilm, Book of Sith reveals the mystery and madness of the dark side—while introducing new characters, history, as well as sinister insights into what it means to be a Sith Master.

The Snowden Principle

Because George Lucas’s neck needs more of your fucking money. RIGHT NOW!

    • Donald Petersen

That neck is really not getting another nickel of my money.  I don’t really mind him messing around with his movies and marketing his IP within an inch of its life, but now that he’s calling us all liars for insisting that Han Shot First, he can take a flying frak at a rolling Sarlacc for all I care.

I don’t pay his neck, I pay his chin.

      wait…

  • Surly Driver

I’ll wait for the 4D version.

    • Tyler Roy-Hart

if you own it for more than an infinitesimal time interval, it is 4D

The Sith were never intended to be bad guys. You all have misunderstood the whole thing all along.

“black-and-red pyramid-shaped Sith case” This was made to resemble a Sith holocron http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Sith_holocron

  • LogrusZed

I like it better than the fancy case for the Jedi book. Having to shove the jedi book back into the case is probably a gripe they took into account when coming up with this design.

What are the chackis in the case under the actual book? Is one a compact for fixing your sith makeup?

    • Richard Dagenais

Not to be a snot but you need to know about this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tchotchke

      • LogrusZed

At what point do we all agree that while there may be a textbook correct Yiddish there are a substantial number of commonly used “incorrect” spellings that we don’t need to try and correct each other unless we’re actually in shul? Even then it’s kind of like a contest to be a Moyshe pupik.

The container for the Jedi book is a half-frozen Tauntaun.

  • Mitchell Glaser

I read that Lucas bought the marketing rights to Star Wars collectibles from Fox for fifty thousand dollars, which he didn’t even pay because he had it deducted from his salary for directing the film. That decision will cost Fox billions of dollars in the end.

  • Richard Dagenais

    Link no worky.

  • Mark Gerl

How long until there is an instructable or Make magazine set of instructions on how to make one?  I love the concept but don’t care about the book inside.

  • Petzl

I just hope we can keep these unholy books which encourage the occult out of our libraries. Additionally, we need to open more Jedi cultural/athletic centers to keep younglings off the street, where they are led astray by the dark side.

  • Mister44

I saw this and thought it was a cool idea. It looks like a nice book too. I can’t afford it now. Hopeully it will be like the Aura Sing Book/Figure set they made awhile back and they make too many of them, causing deep discounts down the road.

Was I the only one here who bought one of the 1000 or so special editions of the Star War Galaxy Series I Gallery? It was the same book as the $20 paper back, but this had a leather bound canvas box, lined in velvet. The book was leather bound, covered in hand marbled paper, embossed with the logo and title, and had a satin interior. Inside were ~20 creators signatures. Really nice ones – not sloppy like the one you get after signing 5000 books at a convention. And the thing that bowled me over – having no idea it was going to be in there – was Ralph McQuarries signature and a never before seen painting by him of a Krayt Dragon.

I take this to any convention which has one of the 100 artists in the book. I have probably another dozen on top of the ones that were in the from the start.

There is NO WAY it is worth this much, but here are some nice pics of it at this auction:

Anyone else bothered by the marginalia typography? All that money spent to develop the box, but it seems none was left over to buy type that looked more handwritten. Or to just actually write those notes and compose them in the layout.

Thanks for posting this Mark! I’m the writer of Book of Sith and really had fun working on this project. The real stars are the packaging designers as this video makes clear.
