An interesting factoid about Cinco de Mayo is that it's become a much more important holyday in the US than in Mexico. Most Mexicans don't even acknowledge it, since it's not a free day (we have to go to work and school), and since it commemorates a rather pyrrhic victory: we later lost that war, and were ocupied by the French for almost four years.
