My friend Todd Lappin experienced about a week's worth of excitement in 15 minutes.
I arrived home from work at 4:00 to depart for our annual houseboat vacation weekend. Planned departure time: 4:30.Here's what then happened between 4:00 and 4:15:
- A concrete truck pulled up to our house, to pour concrete for our new back yard retaining wall
- A hose was run through our living room, to pump the concrete from the front of the house to the back yard
- I walked into my bedroom to find Tim, the contractor who rebuilt our house, fixing something on our bedroom deck. "Hello Todd!" he said
- My wife was in her bathroom, taking a shower
- My friends Ethan and Brad pulled up with a carload of food from Costco. They unloaded this in the garage, in preparation for our houseboat weekend
- While concrete burbled through the living room, our friends Alex and Kris arrived in a taxi from the airport, having just flown in from Washington DC for the weekend. They were very excited to see us
- Fred arrived with his pickup truck, to remove the food from the garage and haul it up to the lake
I think it was the most bizarre 15 minutes of my life. Fortunately, we've trained for just this sort of thing, so I was able to take it in stride.
