In 1990, the USA's Paul Lim dazzled the audience at the Darts World Championship with a spectacular burst of accuracy that resulted in the championship's first ever nine-dart finish, or perfect game. The tension and release was both fueled and embodied by the dulcet brogue of TV commentator Tony Green — "Yes. Yes. Double twelve! YES! The finish! £52,000!" — and it would be years before the feat was repeated.
Lim was nevertheless defeated in the quarterfinals by Cliff Lazarenko, who was himself outsted in the next round by the era-dominating champion Phil Taylor.
